.jpg) ST. VINCENT & THE GRENADINES SCORES HIGH IN ICC CWC 2007 WARM-UPS
Press release
Friday March 9, 2007
Australia and England have both paid warm compliments to St. Vincent & the Grenadines as the teams leave that Host Venue in pursuit of glory in ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. Following their Warm-up fixture earlier today – which brought to a close ICC CWC 2007 action at Arnos Vale Sports Complex – captains of both squads spoke glowingly of the last week spent on the picturesque cluster of islands. “We’ve had a great time and some very good food. We’ve been looked after very well by the hotel staff and in getting around – and we won two games which makes it even better,” said a smiling Aussie skipper, Ricky Ponting, after his players easily overcame England by five wickets. |
His opposite number, Michael Vaughan, praised the people of St. Vincent & the Grenadines for their hospitality, noting “we’re delighted with the accommodations, the practice facilities and the way people have welcomed us”. “We couldn’t have asked for anything more to get used to Caribbean conditions. It’s been a good week of training,” said the opening batsman.
Meanwhile, on a national holiday when ‘Vincies’ and other Caribbean fans – some having flown in specially for the match – mingled with spectators from the two competing Participating Nations to fill Arnos Vale with a crowd of more than 5,000, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ronald Christopher, said there were no reports of any unruly behaviour. In fact, the senior lawman stated that security forces who worked at the stadium throughout the week “could feel satisfied” with how they performed in the four-match, Warm-up series involving Australia, Bermuda, England and Zimbabwe.
“Obviously, we wouldn’t have been tested here like some of the other countries will be tested during the actual tournament but we had a much larger crowd today and more challenging circumstances for our officers. “However, because we’ve been able to go through our procedures over the last few days, we’ve gotten everything right today and the team performed well,” concluded Christopher, a member of CWC’s Security Directorate.

ROGERS IS MR INTERNATIONAL
Efford Rogers has done it again, he has won again. At Overland Park, Kansas, in the United States, this leading international bodybuilder from St. Vincent and the Grenadines made his debut in the professional league as he competed in the Pro International Championships staged by the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation on September 8, 2007.
Efford Rogers appeared in the lightweight category (under 185 lbs) and outperformed fourteen bodybuilders, all from the USA, to take the title of Mr. International. This is an historic achievement, as Efford Rogers is the first Vincentian to take that title, and was the only Caribbean national to compete. He now carriers that distinction, as well as that of being a Pro International Champion. This elite athlete is the quintessential example of what it means to be a leader, knowing you who are what you want out of life, being committed and dedicated to the process that must lead to success and what emanates from being results oriented.
Efford Rogers earned the right to compete as a professional this year when in 2006 he competed as an amateur at the International Natural Bodybuilding Naturalmania Championships against 200 bodybuilders from the United States and placed first in his middleweight class. The US judges, impressed with the on stage performance and distinctive class of this Vincentian athlete, also then awarded him the title of Overall Champion. Efford Rogers has been competing since the mid 1990’s, and has continuously and successfully expanded his Vincentian bodybuilding boundaries to Grenada, Dominica, the BVI, Venezuela and the USA. His bodybuilding report card speaks for itself.
In 1997, he became the OECS Welterweight Champ in Grenada; in 1999 Independence Champ in SVG; in 2000 Phillips Champ in SVG; in 2002 National Champ – Mr. SVG; in 2002, 3rd place CAC Championship, Caracas, Venezuela; in 2005 2nd place Natural Invitational Championship, SVG, in 2006, 2nd place INBF Caribbean Grand Prix, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; in 2006, Middleweight and Overall Champion INBF Naturalmania Nationals Championship, Professional Qualifier, New York City, USA.
